The Canadian government, as well as the carriers, apply restrictions to cargo weight during the annual Spring Thaw period.
The maximum payload during this period is 20.000 kgs per 20ft dv container and 23.000 kgs per 40ft dv container, excluding container tare.
Spring Thaw is in effect from March 9th until May 22th 2020 but depending on weather conditions.
This weight restriction will affect all pre-carriages and deliveries per truck in the Province of Québec in Canada. Amongst others, the city of Montreal is located here.
The maximum allowable cargo weights vary per container and per carrier. It is important to note that the weight restrictions not only apply to the total cargo weight in the container but also to the distribution of the weight over the axles of the chassis.
