Hong Kong: ban on electronic waste

Hong Kong

12 Dec 2018

Shipments to and via Hong Kong

The new Waste Disposal Ordinance (WDO) stipulates that as from December 31, 2018 shipments of electronic waste to and via Hong Kong are forbidden.
With these measurements the Hong Kong government hopes to reduce the huge amount of waste.

Some examples of electronic waste are monitors, scanners, printers, computers but also television sets, washing machines, refrigerators and air conditioners.

Only exception is when the importer has a Waste Disposal License (WDL), usually valid for 3 years.
